A friday night stroll ending in good wine and conversation

One of the many reasons I love my neighborhood (yes sorry I’m still going on about it), is that little art works consistently appear such as those above. New Zealand’s resident Banksy, called Component has recently paid a visit. This adds to his other works, such as:

The angel on Ponsonby road from a few years back
And this beauty will I still love.

Arh but it continues. Gypsy tea rooms, my local is a place to gather with the neighborhood folks and talk to people who you don’t know, compare notes on how you love West Lynn and sink a few wines. This is something that hasn’t happened in other suburbs I’ve lived in Auckland. It feels and acts like a proper community and it’s wonderful.

Banksy

It appears as though Banksy may have come to our fair city and left his mark which has been covered up until very recently. Since it was discovered the council have covered it will a clear perplex frame and guarded it with with wire fence which Dane talks about here.

Northern Quarter Art

In January KC, Paul and I ventured off for an Urbis walking tour of the Northern Quarter. It was a fantastic 1.5 hour walk around my hood, learning about the history and hidden art I failed to notice living here for 6-months.

Hidden behind one of the old fish market facades is this wooden piece believed to have been crafted in the 1800′s.

Mr Smith’s dream is a tiny little window with a stair case inside, leading up to a light – in the wall of the craft centre.

Liverpool

The other day I ventured off to Liverpool for the day to check it out. It was a grey English day, with predictable rain but I still saw a wee snap shot of the Beatle mania clad city. Hard days night hotel anyone? I start work on Monday, so it was essential to explore further afield.

Albert dock is a popular tourist destination so given I was a tourist that was one of my destinations. It has a few museums, including a Tate, a Beatles museum, a slavery museum, and a maritime museum.

Banky’s book enticed me at a store. It is a collection of well, his collection. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
