Moocow [coffee chronicles]

March 13, 2010 · Leave a Comment

With time off, and time to spare it is always an opportunity to venture to new cafes spotted when time does not allow one to deviate from the routine. Just off John Dalton street a bright pocket cafe called Moocow sits waiting for eager drinkers of rocket fuel. Despite the lack of a rich tan creme, this macchiato was power packed and kept me going for hours as I pottered around town on my fixie doing jobs.

The heart of the Northern Quarter

March 9, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Thomas street is perhaps the heart of the Northern Quarter, with a number of cafes, bars, restaurants, youth hostels, curry houses, pubs, record, art, and clothing shops to add to the diversity.  I love this street.

An Outlet [coffee chronicles]

March 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

One of my favourite Northern Quarter (border) cafes is An Outlet. This quirky little cafe, come bar is a great mix of food, deli, wine, poetry, film… everything. It’s the snippetsofeverything of cafes. They make a great macchiato, and the food is really reasonably priced, and service is completely human which is a bonus.  By human I mean the staff seem like they actually enjoy what they are doing, and are genuine, unlike some cafes where you feel like you are interrupting the staff by placing an order.  I can’t wait to get back there after work one night for a olive and cheese board and a glass of wine…

The Deli [coffee chronicles]

March 5, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Didsbury is a suburb about 20-minutes out of Manchester city centre.  It has a great selection of cafes and restaurants.  KC took me to The Deli, an Illy cafe with amazing Italian fodder, made by Italians, who talk Italian, who serve Italian coffee – which tastes fabulous.

Ancoats urban decay paradise

old mill rd

the irony

Only a few blocks from the city centre is Ancoats, an area of Manchester with a deep history of industrial age, poverty, mills of cotton and all sorts of historical nastiness. Some of the old mills have been turned into fancy office blocks, or apartments, but many including the Bank of England building lie empty, slowly rotting away.

I love urban decay photography, because to me it represents impermanence. And even photography itself if a representation of it, as every photo is a snap shot of time than is always changing, every second.

Northern Quarter Art

February 18, 2010 · Leave a Comment

In January KC, Paul and I ventured off for an Urbis walking tour of the Northern Quarter.  It was a fantastic 1.5 hour walk around my hood, learning about the history and hidden art I failed to notice living here for 6-months.
