On the weekend Hero and I rolled out west on our bicycles taking in a few climbs to shelter from the incessant spring winds. At this time of year Mother nature has her ‘swings and round abouts’ days indecisive about whether she will throw a stunning summer day at us, or an ambivalent one.

Our reward for climbing was a visit to Salvation cafe on the way home. It was ‘hot rod festival’ or swap meet day at the cafe with loads of shiny hot rod things and T-White’s bikes there as well. Another reason to love Salvation; they are uniquely them and they are not trying to be another swanky cafe that ultimately looks like any other starbucks or Ponsonby road destination. No way, they are awesome.

It’s been awhile since I’ve found a new cafe to feature on the coffee chronicles. Such is life, routine and grind take over sometimes and going anywhere new is left for the weekend: if there are any new to visit. Hero and I rode this morning and before we even left, we decided that Salvation Kitchen would be our end destination after seeing it on Emma’s blog.

The outward creep of good cafes continues… Salvation is new and taken a wondrous spot in Avondale. It used to be a service station so there is plenty of outside seating and parking, beside a few hot rods. It is appropriately quirky and the range of food is just fantastic. I had to try the Belgium slice looking ‘just as my Mum used to make it.’ And yes it tasted so, probably because everything is made right there on site, not in some South Auckland factory by a big mental thing with teeth and arms.

Coffee? Brilliant.

Yes, we will go back.

Sitting on the fence of discontinuing

I’m humming and harring about whether or not to continue this blog. Originally I started it as a creative outlet, a quotation manager(!) and a place to practice writing. But now I am not sure what it serves and if it still serves those original intentions, or if I want it to. Not that it really needs to serve those original intentions as everything is always changing but I guess I’m reviewing why should I continue ranting into cyberspace when I could spend my blog time doing something else.

I really love technology. Rafting through the processes, finding out application uses, and the vast information that comes with it. It’s fun to me, a hobbie. Take this blog as an example. I have counters and trackers attached to it, so I know who, and when people are reading it. ISP’s, the person’s browser, their location, and everything they clicked on is logged. So much information that I know how long they spend on it, and even know what their computers operating system is, and how they found the blog, be it through google or something else, and the keywords they used. Put you off reading? Ha! That is the beauty of technology. As much as you are reading this I am reading you, when you go through your favourites, and what web page you went to after my blog or before. Scared? Lol. This is our current day, blogging isn’t private, and neither is reading a blog. It’s definitely a two way street, like much in life really.

One of the blogs I follow is called Zen Habits, written by Leo Babuata. It is one of the top 100 blogs in the world, and he is known as a simplicity and productivity guru. He also writes another blog called Write to Done that has helpful writing tips.

Leo released a book called The Power of Less last year, and after a hearty wait on the library list I finally got my hands on it. It’s a quick read with great little tips to simply life from personal to work.
