With big hands the trees on Hakanoa street have an imposing presence. In summer they flesh out with strong big leaves. In winter they sit bare, allowing light through into the houses below. No matter what the the time of year they stand there, strong, beautiful and present with the seasons.

It has been a long time since I rode over 800m of hills and over three hours. In fact, it has been three years! A few weekends ago Hero and I decided to tackle Bethels beach riding out to the old truck that is now a pleasant cafe sitting amongst the black sand and grass of this wild west coast beach. It was a great ride with a tail wind home and 30+ degree temperatures adding vivid contrasts to my growing tan lines.

silo theatre

Auckland has out done itself yet again with the Silo theatre over summer. Everything Friday a food market takes over the Silo park at the Wynyard quarter and a movie is aired on the giant Silo while everyone indulges in churros, hot dogs, crepes, beers, wine and of course, popcorn. A whole team at Auckland council are dedicated to making Auckland the most livable city in the world. Little things keep cropping up around the city such as painted electrical boxes with themes of the area they are in, bike racks on street corners, drinking water fountains, and public transport continues to improve. It is lovely to see the evolution of the city and to enjoy it at the same time.

On this night we saw Man on Wire, a doco film about about Philippe Petit who walked on a high-wire between the twin towers in the 70′s. His passion and determination is incredible. An inspiring man.
