We were all feeding each other

chorlton festival

The Chorlton festival was a few weeks ago.  Chorlton (officially Chorlton-cum-hardy) is a suburb 20 minutes outside of Manchester.  It is a bit of a strange suburb with £1 stores next to fancy cafes and restaurants and has a great community feel.  We only got to one event in the festival, the shared meal.  It is something we do at the Buddhist centre often before a teaching or class.  Everyone chips in and brings food and eats together which for some reason I find really heartening in this busy, competitive, what can I get world.  Instead, we are intentionally feeding strangers, feeding each other on the basic level of sustenance.

  1. Ciao Amy,

Looks like fun, There is nothing like eating at a long table with a bunch of people. One of the joys of my life is feeding those people.

Do you process your own film? Do you use a scanner to get it on the computer? I want to learn how to develop film. I just bought a cheap film camera on ebay, Any advise or suggestions would be great.

    • Great! What did you buy? I don’t process my films, or scan them. There is a little photo developing place in Manchester city. I take my films there and they develop them, and put a digital version on a CD for me. I have no idea how he puts the prints on a CD, whether it’s a scanner or off his photo processing machine? I shall ask… I use cheap film Fuji 200 from Boots pharmacy for less than £2 a roll. Nothing special! Adds to the effect I think. No smoothness (blandness) of digital when you use an old camera and cheap film! What sort of lens is on your new(old) camera?

  2. Ciao Amy,

It’s a Pentax K1000 35mm Film Camera w/ Deitz Zoom Lens. Don’t know much about it. I want to take B and W and try to process the film myself. I have never done it but I want to try.
I need to find somewhere to get cheap film in LA. It seems so expensive.

Ciao and have a great day.

    • Oh brilliant, you will have much fun with that. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Developing… that’s a big project, very admirable! I’ve heard there is as much art in developing (in fact more) than taking a picture. I think I am lucky in Manchester as it is very cheap to process film here. Enjoy your new gadget! I just downloaded Hipstamatic (affter seeing your photos) so am going to have much fun with that!

  3. Ciao Amy,

Hipstamatic is so much fun. For .99 cents I added on the premium lens and film. The blackeys film is the B and W film. Really cool. Here is some info for you
