oklahoma tuesday [coffee chronicles 19]

just wait

there it is

waiting

watching

Every Tuesday I have a study class at the Manchester Buddhist Centre.  It doesn’t start until 7pm so I have quite a bit of time between finishing work and my class, which leads me to Oklahoma cafe.  Whether you are sitting inside looking at the bright array of colour, or outside people watching, it is always a great place to stop by.  The coffee is reliable, strong and exactly what is needed before 2.5 hours of meaty discussions such as the meaning of life, meditation and how to deal with difficult people.

I’ve learnt a lot through this group.  Every other week we read a chapter of a book and then spend the next few weeks discussing it, and how we can practically apply its teachings to our lives.  Not only is this discussed, but each week we have homework to practice the teachings as well.  As our teacher Ratnasargara says “there is no use in just discussing the theory all the time.  It has to be applicable and practical to our daily lives.” Another aspect I enjoy is the coming together of all different ages, stages and backgrounds of each of the group members so we all bring very different perspectives to discussions which is very interesting.

  1. Ciao Ames,

Love the coffee shots. Your class sounds wonderful. I love buddhism even though I am half into it. Action is the key. My thoughts mean little, but what actions do I take. I must judge my actions, not my thoughts.

    Ciao

  2. Exactly! Beautifully put Seamus.

We are not our thoughts, and we are not our emotions…

  3. I’m SURE you know this. But isn’t it great how coffee’s most original use was as an aide to meditation – Cappuccino means ‘little hood’ or ‘little monk’s cowl. Cute. Stunning photos as ever. Teach me!

  4. Thanks Dane, I did not know that! That is just brilliant – my two passion’s combine!
