Rollei Retro 100

St Ives from appearance was the perfect location to break out the Rollei Retro 100 – a black and white film with a distinctive old school touch.  While I have been experimenting with film for about 2-years this is only my second monochrome investigation.  The first one, on my now defunct Canon Canonet rangefinder (1961) was a mess promptly sending me back to colour, but my trusty old 1974 Pentax Spotmatic didn’t let me down.

  1. Love the top photograph. So so cool. Have fun with the camera.
I have only used digital. Some day I would like to take pictures on film and learn to develop them myself.

  2. My motivation with film was similar: to learn the basics, and not rely on ‘auto’ before I moved onto a digital SLR. After spending time on Flickr and learning my vintage rangefinder and SLR’s functions (and I’m still learning!), I’m almost loath to go to a digital SLR. The grain, and texture of film is something unique, and the process of deciding a shot, and waiting for the development goes against our current ‘instant’ culture. I’m in love with the slow process, as well as the results!
