It is impossible to wander around a travel destination without stopping at a contemporary museum [aka cafe] to chill out, people watch and of course sample the local delights. Tucked away in the Downlong area of St Ives Olive (top picture) is a very cute little cafe with home made cakes and well served Illy coffee. The treacle and orange tart drew us in for lunch as locals popped in and out, unlike the tourist filled cafes around the harbor.
The Hub, a bar, come cafe had a surfer feel and local Cornish coffee called Origin, and they made a damn good macchiato with a rich creme.
Lastly was the gem of the trip. Blas, an organic, free range, eco friendly, fair trade burger bar made something I’ve never tried before: a spanish cafe cortado with condensed cream! Yes, a sweet layer of this gorgeous liquid covered the bottom of the cup, then a cortado was on top making an incredible (and super charged) mixture of caffeine and sugar. Blas burgers are amazing with an extensive vegetarian selection. If you ever only have time to have one meal in St Ives, make it Blas.
