We had heard that the Piazza Michaelango was a great spot to get a view of Florence so we ventured along the river arno and off up the many steps, lined with wooden crucifixes, terracota houses, and history leaching out of every corner turned.
The green David sits at the top of the hill, along with gelato carts.
We watched the sunset with about 50 other people doing the same thing: having a picnic, a glass of wine, and a laugh.
On our way down the hill the sun was down and people had yet closed their shutters. The lights on in most houses gave an insight into Florentine houses. We peaked into one amazing house and man came out proudly saying “mi casa” (my house). With thumbs in the air we enthusiastically replied “bella!”
