I’m staying in the Northern Quarter in Manchester where there is a selection of cafes which provide free wi-fi, and of course coffee. While it has a long way to go to live up to Auckland’s standards it is enough to give the caffeine kick, and stop the withdrawal symptoms. I’ve been café dwelling a lot lately as when you are job and flat hunting the internet is essential.
CUP – is a cute café on Thomas Street, where they make there own tea and have a range of tea cups and clothes to dwell amongst.
Koffee Pot – have great traditional breakfasts with black pudding, bacon and hash browns giving me a weeks worth of fat in one sitting.
Oklahoma – a full vegetarian café complete with a gift shop stocking Moleskines amongst other things. It is good to know Oklahoma will keep my Moleskine fetish going.
I like dwelling, engaging in people watching but a week on the café hopping for internet is testing my patience. While I like hostel skipping when travelling, as a permanent abode while trying to find a flat frankly sucks. I really want a place to set up base camp! I’ve been a woman on a mission the last 5-days trying to find a place.
“It took me two weeks,” said Silvana from Austria the day I arrived. I stupidly thought to myself, yeah right, I’m sure it can’t be that hard! The frustrating thing here isn’t the availability – there are loads. It is that when you contact people they don’t reply, be it from calling, texting or emailing. Nothing. So of the 30 places I’ve contacted I’ve had 6 replies, and seen only four.
Today I had a sort of day off hunting, limiting it to only one flat view, one contact, and one job application. I over did it yesterday and am pooped! Instead, I went to Yoga – for the first time in over a year, so hopefully I can move tomorrow!
